Well, she's wearing the dress the same way (right side up, right side out) but accessorizing it differently each time.

Hello! I had an unplugged, computer/internet-free weekend that was unintentional. My internet access decided to not work all weekend. So I read, went to IKEA with my sister in law, niece and nephew, and watched almost the entire first season of Fringe on DVD. Also tackled the last room in my apartment that needed some paring down and prettying up.
I can tell you now (because they're gone - the piles that is) that I was living with a couple piles of clothes and linens in my bedroom (can we say "teenager"?!) - and sighed over them daily. Turns out if you set your timer for 15 minutes at a time and just start working on a project that you've procrastinated on, you can make excellent progress. The piles to dresser drawer and linen closet process took a timer setting of 15 minutes then an additional 4 minutes.
I love this home and wardrobe of designer Momo Suzuki from a closet tour on Jeana Sohn's blog. Jeana sums up perfectly why Momo's wardrobe and home are so appealing:

I'm a girly girl. Kind of. I favor simplicity in looks - and tend to wear a winter uniform of shirt/cardi/skirt or dress/cardi - both with tights and mary janes or clunky shoes. (Yes, I admit to wearing clunky shoes. Not the most fashionable but I love 'em.) Ooohh and a colorful bag too.
I own bags in orange, yellow, green, black, red, and then a few patterned ones. Laughed when I heard my five year old niece ask for bags for Christmas. She loves purses and bags just like her auntie. I would spend my allowance each week as a teenager - on purses.
Scarves: can't forget about those. I own ones in gray, white, black, sky blue, raspberry and yellow/white. This year am looking for a purple scarf and an orange one.

Today I'm wearing a brightly colored sundress with a raspberry cami underneath and a black cardi over it all...with black mary janes and a long gray scarf wound round my neck. Leaving the gym this morning, I was stopped by a woman who loved the outfit [not pictured here]. I get stopped like this whenever I wear the outfit. Thus I was delighted to find this group on flickr - stumbled onto it. (Don't you love it when that happens?!) These photos are all from a flickr group called "How I wear my UNIFORM scarf".

a gray cardigan to wear over black. maybe some boots as well.
My hair is like hers almost exactly (mine's a bit longer)..but I like the lipstick color and the black dress.
I like the navy sweater (?) coat, the grey, the tights and the boots.
So there you have it. Glimpses of what inspires me for this fall and winter. Naturally, I'd buy up everything I could from Garnet Hill or Johnnie Boden, but my wallet doesn't stretch that far this season!

I am in love. Can you SEE the family above? Carolina (of the blog DoreDoris) has on my all-time favorite wardrobe mix of black and white with a SHOT of color (those tights!!!), the pink + green combo! his red converse! And that's just the family. Wait until you SEE their home!!! I want a pantry as organized and colorful as theirs; I want the airy, spacious feel to my own house that they have. I want...I want....

Ever get something stuck in your head that you just HAVE TO HAVE? I have an item in mind but will make do with photos from it found on flickr.
Lotta Jansdotter has a book called Lotta's Lifestyle that I MUST BUY NOW or at least that's what my heart is calling out for. My budget has other ideas and has said we must wait for now to buy it.

Lotta's outfit above inspired an ensemble I can create out of similar items in my wardrobe. That's the fun part! If I had the whole book (anyone want to sell me theirs?), what other wardrobe creations could I create out of my current clothing items?

I've intended for months to pick up a pair of red shoes but then forgot about it.
Seeing these photos has me adding red shoes! to a shopping list as well as a yellow wrap.

I have been reading the book Style Statement by Carrie McCarthy & Danielle LaPorte. [It's a pretty book even if one doesn't want to find out what their style statement is.] Skimmed the profiles of interviewees while waiting to meet a friend last night and was struck by one description in particular:
simply: Clean, pared down, balanced. Basic, organic. Fundamental. Austere, plain. Open spaces. Well organized. Tidy. Can range from ultramodern and stark to sheer elegance. Never ostentatious or showy.
Realized today I'd done that with my wardrobe. I have been happily mixing and matching the following "uniform" pieces for two weeks:
I wear the simple clothing then add a pretty barrette or ring. (Need to start buying some necklaces and bracelets that I love and will happily wear.)
What Style Statement encourages is to find out who you are and incorporate it 100% of the time: relationships, belongings, home, finances, work, etc.
After reading the Simply section, I did some clearing off of countertops and tables at home, and found I could breathe much easier after it was done. Smiled more this morning when I caught glimpses of the bare surfaces.

a new favorite blog, wiksten-made, posted these photos of european style. I love the top one and it's reminding me to buy a new pair of dansko clogs. love those shoes worn with tights! and the bottom photo is great because I love her combination of denim and black...two things I regularly put together.
I originally signed in here to write about a perky announcement I hear regularly on the radio. I listen to a station that is commercial free and 100% listener supported. so there are no commercials but there are "announcements." This morning, my least favorite announcement* came on, so I had to change the station, but that station had on the even-more-perky eharmony advertisement, so I had to change the station one more time. I found a fun country song to listen to. *whew* perkiness avoided.
*because the station is listener supported, there is a music team listeners can join (I did) and help decide what songs air on the station and at what intervals...we can vote for songs to be played more often or less often. the person who represents this team is a girl named MICHELLE! and she's the perkiest music team member EVER. Her perky voice is overwhelming....so I tend to change the station for a little while.
This is the same station that had an announcement about how it is a family station..and it started the announcement by listing family events: "Your child's first bike ride." "A family dinner." "Wiping your child's........"
BUTT. That's what I heard in my head Every Single Time.
The correct answer, of course, is "tears" BUT (ha ha ha I did say but) I didn't think of that...my mind instantly going to "butt" automatically. I never said a word to someone at the station....yet two weeks later, a modified announcement began airing. thank you very much!

I'm notorious for wearing dark colors and had the following dialogue today:
Coworker: Hey, I like your purple sweater! When will I see white?
Me: When I complete my nursing degree.
Coworker: "Ha ha! ...Wait. Are you going for your nursing degree?"

this sums up my style. eileen fisher. I love the motto on the website. "what if simplicity is all you need?"
love it!! I love a uniform - and my winter and "hiding" uniform tends to be black. I will look down during the day sometimes and go "huh...all black again" which is no big deal. I lived in San Francisco where people wore black all the time (except in warm weather and on weekends - so mostly to work) so I didn't think about it.
a friend helped me move and noticed that I had a bin of black tshirts. she wasn't surprised. some people might take that as a sign to bring more color into their wardrobe but I loved it. I thought "woo hoo! she recognizes my personal style!" I buy things that all go together... and this winter it's been a cute black skirt that has a white flower on it (worn a minimum of two times a week and always gets compliments), a plain black skirt, a gray skirt, a pair of black pants, one pair of dark jeans and a pair of khaki capris (on my shortness, the pants end just above the ankle.. my preferred pant length).
I then wear a white or black tshirt on top - with a cardigan, sweater or a shirt layered over the t-shirt.
black tights or bare legs and some black shoes (usually easy spirit or dansko) complete the outfit.
I carry the purse of the moment and have one tote bag. when I'm done with it, I buy one to replace it and then give the original away or toss it.
So my wardrobe is minimal. Some skirts, some pants, some shirts, some sweaters. All go together. I can toss things on and go. I can straighten my curly hair or let it be natural. Makeup takes two minutes , if that. (I feel naked without lipstick..so gotta have some of that.) Easy peasy.
If I had a sky's-the-limit budget, I'd purchase only eileen fisher clothes.
Now that spring is here...I look more toward springy colors - and wearing navy instead of black. But until I buy some spring clothes, you'll find me happy in neutrals!
