Ran across the work of photographer Johanna Ekmark via la maison d'Anna G. I love her photos of people as much as the ones of interiors. The first photo of the kids is my favorite.

The weather finally feels like spring instead of winter! I see the sun and am celebrating with some cheerful yellows and an adorable clock. By celebrating, I mean wanting the flowers, vase and clock to be mine instead of merely admiring the pretty photo posted by le blog de la remule

I may love crazy bright colors (orange! yellow! pink!), I will always have a fondness for this classic combo of black, white and red.
It's Friday!! I'm about halfway through the book The Hunger Games and really want to finish it so I can see the movie this weekend! The next two days hold few plans: time at a cafe with friends, a movie, lots of naps so this bronchitis will go away, and some baking.
What does your weekend hold?

I have a fondness for Fisher Price little people - the ones from long ago - before they started making the people in bigger sizes. I own four of them from childhood- and have yet to run across any in thrift stores or rummage sales. I regret the yellow fisher price house with all furniture and people that was available at a thrift store in my brother Jay's town - for only $18 that I didn't bid on. (via Goodwill's online auction site)
I did, however, spend a day with the little people in my possession. Feel free to peruse that album - the captions help the photos make sense.
I'm thrilled that Oliva and Anne-Sophie of SoDeco have created a poster of the Fisher Price people and am hoping they ship to the U.S.!

Some lovely colors for you today. Those washcloths are much cuter than the ones I made in fifth grade as a starter project!

annie + michael have the loveliest home (isn't it fun to see how people personalize rentals?!). It's difficult to pick a favorite room, but I will go with the child's room - - it's adorable!

PS: Annie has a blog if you're interested. I love her post on "home" where she talks about why she likes to be at home, her fondness for pretty things, and collects vintage items to fit into her decor at home.

Watching the Novogratz design show (HGTV) and Bob's talking to the glitter artist, Camomile Hixon. I have never seen her work before but am stunned by how pretty (sparkling!) it is while being so neat at the same time. Consider me her newest fan.

These bright yellow rooms via rusta upp have made me happy today! Must find some more yellow to sunny up the apartment.
Then she's put together gifts for new babies - socks displayed as cupcakes. So cute!

These rooms above drew me in more than anyothers in awhile. I love the red clock and the bright containers on the stairs - which only pop out because of all the white and black surrounding them. Lovely!
Hello, friends! Hope today finds you doing well and that you have some great weather! (yes, it must be time to talk about the weather - again!) It's gray and rainy but it doesn't bother me because I find it more fun to add pops of color to make the day all cheery! Will be moving some colorful accessories around at home and work and will toss on my cerise scarf to cheer up a black and white outfit!
Worked with the youth group at church last night and was pie-ed in the face for the first time ever. Ever. Yes, I know, how could I get through life thus far without that happening?! It was a trivia contest between the students and leaders and my student was asked to recite John 3:16 - a verse many people know by heart. I knew at that moment I was done for. Yep. Was worth it though to see the smiles of the girls in my group!
What am I doing? You don't want to read all about my night....you want to see photos! of black and white rooms! So go on..... scroll down. Enjoy!

It snowed last night. Really. So to counteract a gray day, here's some yellow! I've had the color on my brain all weekend, and so has frenchbydesign. Must be a spring thing because almost a year ago to the day, I posted a series of yellow items, with the kitchen above being my favorite room.
Then poppytalk has had a penchant for yellow as well.

These cozy images from shine design fit the mood of the morning perfectly. I have been up since 4:15 AM and have done tasks around the home that would make flylady proud: got up, showered, dressed to shoes, put makeup on, unloaded the dishwasher, wiped down the kitchen counters, made a smoothie for breakfast, folded laundry from the dryer and put another load into the dryer, and finally sat down with a smoothie to peruse blogs. And it's only 5:30. Yeah.... in the morning.
Work has been a bit intense for the past two weeks - so I've had little time or energy when at home to catch up on blog reading much less make a dent in the books stacked up everywhere....which is why it feels so luxurious this very moment to sip a smoothie and read blogs. Feels like I've been away from friends/bloggers way too long!
How have you been?
What's new and exciting in your life?

Loving this scarf display in Katrin's bedroom. And the paint color next to the white wardrobe. And the orderly bookshelves.
I went exploring around Katrin's home on flickr and it's adorable. Just take a look!
So happy Amy at Sweet Sweet Life featured Katrin's photos on her blog. Katrin has a cute blog and flickr pages.

Jenny from this humble abode was on design*sponge with some creative gift wrapping ideas. I adore that first photo because of its cuteness and the pops of color! And because I have some wrapping left to do. I admit it. After seeing this post, I'm going to say that my procrastination has been rewarded because now I can do some mighty colorful wrapping.

The sun is out! Everyone seems more cheerful! Thus it's a good time to bring in some color via KrickelinKrickelin.
Am listening to the Amelie soundtrack and making a list for a trip to IKEA this weekend with my sister-in-law. She's getting some big purchases while I'll be looking for smaller items such as pretty tea towels, inexpensive linen towels to use for anything from wrapping warm bread to wrapping gifts. Candles too. I need many more candles. With sunset in the afternoon around here, candles are a must!
Am very happy that Amy (Sweet Sweet Life) and her family made the journey safely from the West to the East Coast and that they're settling nicely into their new home and community!

Emily and Erick Henson live in this beautifully styled small home. My favorites are the painted white floors, the fun chandelier in the kitchen, and the beautiful cabinet in the bathroom. (which is also near that lime tub that is divine!)
Many more photos can be found in the house tour, and for more from Emily, you can read her blog.

Festive Christmas stars!
Each Christmas season, I tend to put up one small fiber optic tree and a pink wreath on my front door but am in the mood this year to really put up some creative, bright, beautiful decorations. The new issue of Rue had some great ideas including this bright idea. [click images for larger versions]

Happy Friday! What plans do you have?
It's a bit cold here so I'll be looking for some indoor fun. Now that just sounds wrong. I meant things like drinking a mocha while reading a new novel, puttering around the kitchen - baking and cooking, rearranging furniture in the living room and bedroom and napping. I'll be meeting a friend for Saturday lunch and then card playing - a plan a long time in the making. We've been unable to make our schedules mesh for weeks!
The new Harry Potter movie is out so that's a possibility. So is the hunt for dark denim trouser jeans. "Long pants" as I call them as my preferred pant length is ankle length (just above my ankle)... and friends tend to faint when I wear Long Pants. Or, as my mom calls it, they "get the vapors", a phenomena that hasn't occurred in real life outside of novels for a hundred years or more! (hey Mom, how's it going?!)
There you go. Random thoughts spilling from my brain to the screen. Aren't you thrilled?!
I want to share some friday favorites with you. because she has a Goodness Book // because I always watch other people and do what they do - but in my head // when seeking simplicity at home, I often think of miss minimalists's bedroom // because she recognized a busy, cluttered life and made a radical change
HAPPY FRIDAY!!!

Three brothers got a bedroom re-done and requested it be orange, airplanes and not girly. I love the room, and I'm a girl. But it's truly not a girly room. I love the mom's attention to details. Oh and that mom? She has a blog...a pretty blog!

A series of posts starts now....of beauty found on some Norwegian blogs. These images are from "the house by the stream".
I don't know where she got the cups in the upper left corner of the photo (the orange, berry and green ones) but I'm in love. Seriously. In love. I want to marry those colors and the cups.
Then there are these bursts of color.......along with the pretty crate, the wire basket and HELLO beautiful papers.

I can't stop staring at the image above! Matthew Mead, in his new magazine Holiday, has some amazing images. He's helped me like blue more than ever before because of this table setting:
The magazine has recipes, crafts, and all sorts of good things. The holidays really do start in about six or seven weeks. (maybe I need a current calendar in front of me to tell me when the holidays start. sheesh.) Can you even believe it?! Guess I should order his magazine. Apparently ordering now has the magazine's premiere issue arriving in November!
By the way, it's Friday. The weekend will be a much needed, much anticipated respite from a crazy, drama-filled intense work week. Big plans include a friend's wedding and getting together with another friend to recreate a painting found on a decor blog. If all goes well, will post photos here. Little weekend plans include sorting linens to give some away, reading a new book, possibly seeing the movie "It's Kind of a Funny Story", and having dinner with a friend at our favorite restaurant - Stir Crazy.
Now the question is: What are you doing this weekend?

Hello! Am just finishing up the long weekend. Has been nice to have a vacation day tacked onto the three-day weekend. Spent the day sniffling with a slight cold but also picking up some great library books and a few groceries. Exciting stuff! The weekend was more fun - played bananagrams and cards with family and friends, spent loads of time with the niece and nephews, watched Leverage* - Season 1 on DVD (free thanks to the library), and went to church with my mom and her best friend.
*Leverage. Holy cow. Great show. Amazing cast. The script is well written with no extra words. Each episode has cons, heists, humor and some romance.

thanks to table tonic, found a bunch of new blogs. most notable was caldwell flake, an interior design company that does a lot of formal rooms but makes them more fun with color. loads and loads of color. behold some of my favorite rooms!
the lamp and the pillow that caught my eye in the photo on the right
obviously the bright wallpaper is quite something - unusual but pretty!
I love the white vase. looks like it was cut out of a book...
almost doesn't look real! but I love it!
pink. pink. pink. guilty as charged. I adore it.
hmm..now if only my initals included "ePc" I could hop into the photo and
grab that pillow. look at the stripes behind the headboard. and the ottoman!
ack! so cute I can hardly stand it.
look up. wallpaper on the ceiling? divine! it is my favorite shade of blue.
I'm a teensy bit color blind. is it blue or green or a bit of both?
loving dots and stripes mixed. I even don't mind the brown walls.
normally I'm all "eh" about brown (that's my highly scientific,
technical opinion..."eh") but it works here!

So happy that Lara at piewacket featured about Mo and me on her blog! I love the furniture and crocheted items! Have to admit I have a bit of a crush on the green cabinet that Jo made over and called Mrs. Schmitt, named for a letter she found in the cabinet - addressed to Mrs. Schmitt.
How cute is that little chair? (Or is it a giant lamp and a normal sized chair?!)
I didn't notice it until the photo posted here. Adorable!!

Mille owns the vintage clothing shop, Carmen, in Copenhagen. Her home appeals to me because I live in an apartment that began bland. I can't picture Mille's home starting out as anything but fascinating and moving on to intriguing. The photo above is my favorite..but I have a fondness for the flower photo below as well.

Swooning over wire baskets. Must find some zinc baskets in the States!
Speaking of finding things, must find a way to purchase a Livingetc subscription. If I bought every issue I could find at Barnes & Noble (30 minute drive from my home), it would be $108/year. However, buying a year's worth is impossible because the B & N only buys ONE issue per month and others like to buy it too...so I buy Livingetc about six times a year. I did visit the livingetc subscription page and they had a way to put in U.S. addresses and use my credit card...I don't think it would have been the $178 U.S. price I was seeing on magazine subscription sites that sell loads of magazines but I can't be sure.
I do have a local, independent bookseller a mile from the office who used to sell some international magazines. They haven't had Livingetc for awhile, so I've gone to a Big Chain Store to get the magazine instead. But I'd much rather purchase it locally and support my community.
What to do?! Do you buy international magazines? Where?
edited: found that I can purchase a Livingetc subscription to Zinio here for $29.33 U.S.

It's Friday! Hoping to spend one night with family tonight after a little road trip. Then will spend the remainder of the weekend reading, doing laundry, sorting through boxes of "stuff" that have accumulated, and seeing Toy Story 3 and/or Grown Ups (new Adam Sandler film).
What are your weekend plans?

Craving a small, bright container like this green one for near my kitchen sink.
Sweet and simple. So very pretty.
It's Friday!! Looking forward to bridesmaid dress shopping with a friend, attending a wedding, and then going to the Dead Sea Scrolls exhibit at the local public museum. Will attempt to make my first Anthropologie store visit as well. Last time, I arrived an hour after they closed. So sad.
What are you looking forward to this weekend?
