I'm happy it's Thursday, merely because it's one day closer to the weekend. Am YAWNING like crazy and attempting to wake up and be more alert. Here's how the week has been:
Went to the baseball game last night - Brewers vs. Braves - with Youth Guy, Tech Guy + Katie. We paid attention - most of the night, but as you'll see, our attention wandered at times. We did cheer the Brewers on to a 3-2 win!
texting...........grading algebra exams..............reading a novel. exciting game!
It's the first glimpse I've had into an organized person's home corners and been shown what is in each box.
Benita has taken items that in other homes may not have a place and she's assigned them a box.
I love it. Count me in as organizing my shelves this weekend!
Finally! Models to pose by the sign in my parking lot! We pull up to my place, the kids see the sign and run faster than the beeping-roadrunner to the sign and immediately begin posing. Can you tell the afternoon was one fun moment after another?!
It's Friday. It's a holiday weekend. I'm very happy. I've made minimal plans - puttering around home, buying some stylishly comfy shoes for the Vegas trip (three weeks from today!), going for some long walks, hanging out with family and friends. I'd also like to see the movie about Vegas (that Ashton Kutcher is in). Anyone see it yet?
What are you doing this weekend?
What a gorgeous, gorgeous set of wallpaper prints! Now I want to stop renting so I can buy a condo and fix it up all urban and pretty-like!
Found the photo on a new favorite blog, At Home with Kim Vallee. I like the fact that Kim is fluent in French and injects a French influence into her style.
Who has the best doctor ever? Me, that's who!
He arrives in the office, my Rock Star Doctor who is handsome and used to have a shoulder length blunt haircut.....thus Rock Star! Anyhooo...he offered samples today of a new medicine that may work for me......
Doc: "....so just call us when you need more, and it'll be waiting for you up front."
Me: "...ooh...exciting...as if I had my very own supplier!!!"
Doc: "That could be arranged. We meet in a dark alley - I bring the drugs, you bring the cash....."
Me: "Ooohhhh...or one day, I could just drop off a present for you...."
Doc: "Orrrrrr we could meet at Starbucks and casually make the exchange..."
Me: "Right! Starbucks! A Starbucks gift card!"
Doc: (crashes back into reality with a thud) "Oh no. That's okay."
At least I got to meet with the nurse and be handed a plain paper bag with pills in it. HAHAHAHA.
Who's happy now?
As I receive instant messages and facebook chat messages about The Two Davids, I'm the only one who likes and is voting for David Archuleta. According to one friend, Tim, "David Archuleta would be great for Disney, while David Cook would be great in the real world." Another friend declared David A. to be "boring" while she loves David C.
Time will tell.
Gotta go. Must keep texting VOTE to 5702. Little David needs my votes.
My niece Mimo (age 3) took this photo of her brother Caleb before he played the violin during his recital. We all snuck out after Caleb played 8th out of like 40 kids (so that we could get Caleb's friend home on time)...
I wondered what if every family snuck their child out after the child performed? by the last child it would be a nearly empty room, the remaining child's family and the three piano/violin teachers! *echo echo CLAP CLAP CLAP echo echo*
It's another Monday. One more weekend day would have been nice.....to sleep in, go for a long walk, organize the front closet, watch the movie "Once" which, I am confiding in you, I have had since February from Netflix (at least). A friend just wrote me that the film Once took her breath away. I'd also meet a friend for coffee, maybe go to a matinee.... have to see Iron Man at least one or two more times... go shopping for some vacation clothes. Take a nap. Make a tasty salad for dinner and some fresh lemonade. Eat it at my yellow cafe table on the deck - with a good book. That would be a good Monday!
[EDITED: The above image is from wohn idee http://www.wohnidee.de/ I googled "wohn idee" and an option from Google was found to the right of the website link - offering to translate the page. That was quite helpful as I don't read German!]
so I'm a rock star....no, let me say that again, I am a Rock Star to my 3 year old niece Mimo. (my only niece). this past week, she's begun this thing of my sitting by her at every opportunity - then at her brother's one-year-old-birthday celebratory dinner...and then on saturday at their older brother's violin recital. Mimo literally shook with excitement that her Auntie was sitting NEXT TO HER! oh..the emotions. she hugged me, she kept leaning her head on me, she'd look up at me with the biggest eyes just to make sure I was still there.
the rest of the weekend hasn't been quite that exciting but I'll try to relay the fun for you:
How's your weekend been? How are the Bay Area friends holding up in the HEAT!?! Say hi to my mom. She's in Santa Rosa right now until next weekend.
oh yeah - VEGAS in four measly weeks. My birthday trip to meet friends there. WOO HOO!
A friend, Erik, took some amazing photos at the concert at church Friday night. If I'd known he was going to be taking photos..I would have left my camera at home! His photos are brilliant!
Youth Guy Bryan Roe + his assistant for the evening, Joey.
Trademark of Family Force 5.
Youth Guy delivering some good news to the crowd!
People traveled from at least six states to see this show: Wisconsin, Illinois, Indiana, Ohio, Iowa and West Virginia!
The company that provides sound and lighting for the world's largest music festival, Summerfest, provided the sound and lighting.
You can view the entire slideshow here.
All photos by Erik Helgestad. Thank you, Erik!!
Wednesday was my nephew Hudson's first birthday. Thus a birthday dinner of pizza with family.
Drove way too fast to arrive at church in time to meet with my junior high girls. Surprise! (or I'd just forgotten!)..a pizza party was given to the junior high kids (boys and girls) for their service project of giving to the homeless in April. Couldn't settle anyone down to have a serious discussion so they got out early.
Here's the night.
Pizza Party #1.
PIZZA PARTY #2
Jessy is moving away this summer. She doesn't look that sad!
Ya know...if you make that face often enough... it'll freeze that way. Are ya payin' attention, Youth Guy Bryan Roe???
One more week with these girls until the fall. KC is the sixth grader with the soda bottle who looks sad. She was injured in the mosh pit of the concert at church Friday night - when she headbanged too much.
KC's doctor told her that her headbanging days are over. Nice to hear at age 12. She can tell her grandkids one day, "So I used to headbang! No, really! Why are there no photos of me doing that? Because my Headbanging Years were from the ages of 10 to 12. I had to retire early because of an injury."
I like this photo for the jars, the white dishes, and the baskets above the shelves. An inspiration to put baskets above my kitchen cupboards. Storing items out of sight in simple containers. YESSSS (as Rona would say).
I like the arrangement of artwork on the wall near the stairs. My front door opens to a stairway up to my apartment. On one wall I'd like to hang a bunch of photos. The other wall will be a work in progress as friends who visit will be asked to create pieces of art on medium size canvases....so that my art wall will be one of a kind!
I do believe those are all my random thoughts at the moment.
How's your week goin'?
I have been reading the book Style Statement by Carrie McCarthy & Danielle LaPorte. [It's a pretty book even if one doesn't want to find out what their style statement is.] Skimmed the profiles of interviewees while waiting to meet a friend last night and was struck by one description in particular:
simply: Clean, pared down, balanced. Basic, organic. Fundamental. Austere, plain. Open spaces. Well organized. Tidy. Can range from ultramodern and stark to sheer elegance. Never ostentatious or showy.
Realized today I'd done that with my wardrobe. I have been happily mixing and matching the following "uniform" pieces for two weeks:
I wear the simple clothing then add a pretty barrette or ring. (Need to start buying some necklaces and bracelets that I love and will happily wear.)
What Style Statement encourages is to find out who you are and incorporate it 100% of the time: relationships, belongings, home, finances, work, etc.
After reading the Simply section, I did some clearing off of countertops and tables at home, and found I could breathe much easier after it was done. Smiled more this morning when I caught glimpses of the bare surfaces.
Here are some of the pages that were inspirational to me. (click on image for larger view) I like that the person interviewed defined simply as: Capturing the essense of somebody or something in a way that is easy, a way that flows, a way that is true.
it's 8:48 PM on Sunday night. I'm about to climb into bed with three books: the Message Remix (Bible), Blue Like Jazz, and a mystery (one of the Jane Whitefield series). I twittered this but it feels positively decadent to be able to read and go to sleep so early.
Today was the next-to-last youth service for this school year, and Bryan taught an excellent message. Can't wait to discuss it with the junior high girls on Wednesday night.
Here's my Friday night. The Family Force 5/The Wedding/Children 18:3 concert at church for 800 kids and adults who came from four states for the event... and it had a mosh pit. I smiled through the entire night with the help of some good earplugs. Good thing my hearing test was LAST week.... 48 hours after the concert and my ears are still ringing a bit.
Here are Friday photos.
If you look at the top right corner of this photo, there's a guy Elena and I called Skull Shirt Guy. I commented on his shirt...and he began a long story about liking the music of Hank Williams Jr. the Third's music...that his best CD is "Straight to Hell"...but has some good lyrics (and a lot he can't repeat). Then we heard how Skull Shirt Guy writes country gospel songs. Then he finished his work of loading the equipment into the truck...and we never saw him again. The End.
aha! a floral theme. seem to be craving that now that spring has definitely arrived in wisconsin. time to do some spring cleaning, airing out, getting rid of everything I haven't used or needed since moving in last spring. there's just something about the seasons changing that makes little changes at home and in the wardrobe just that much more special. so that at the end of the day you can sit back, relax and enjoy the refreshing newness.
Photos from here.
Late last night, I get these Twitter updates almost simultaneously on my phone:
|Shroni Hitting up newest local bar--wine and dessert lounge. wayyy too good. 36 minutes ago from txt|
Sharona (Shroni) follows Maggie's updates on Twitter, but Maggie does not know Sharona.
I text Sharona that Maggie from Twitter just twittered about her...
Shroni So MAYBE i went back to find maggie...YOU DONT KNOW ME!
|Maggie Holy s&%*. Small city. Turns out Sherona was the stranger who was Twittering. Sherona is the nicest "stalker" in town.|
So two strangers at a bar use Twitter. Across the country, a girl gets the updates and connects the other two. Teeny, tiny world. Gotta love twitter, texting and fun friends who don't mind stalking a Twitter celebrity!
I love empty spaces. soothing to look at.
then again. it's almost 10 PM Wednesday night and am about to fall over in my chair. need to crawl into bed.
have been sleep deprived for a month since I started taking a medication that I thought made me sleepy. so I took it at night. thus began a month of waking up every two hours at night and not easily falling back asleep because the medicine was keeping me alert.
after a month of this... it hit me. take the medicine in the morning. tried that on sunday..and slept solidly the past two nights. am finally going to get over the sleep deprivation. WOO HOO.
so I'm too tired to be ecstatic about being genuinely sleepy..but trust me. am doing the happy dance inside me.
now if you'll exuse me, I have some snorin' to do..I mean dreaming.
Here's one of my junior high girls with me at church today. People mistake her for my daughter (I don't have kids.) KC is adorable, fun, and quite the artist!
So I'm at the gym this afternoon and need to check out a lap counter from the trainer at the desk.
Trainer: "Would you like an ice pack too?" (he was handing one to a woman next to me).
Me: "Uh..no thanks! I'd like a lap counter please."
T: "oww..oww..oww..there's nothing FUNNY about it...." muttering "Why do they call it the FUNNY bone anyway???"
T continues to be paralyzed by pain and rubs his elbow to alleviate the discomfort while I focus on filling out the signout sheet correctly. Without looking up from the form, I ask absentmindedly, "What time is it?"
T - in much pain - "I. Don't. Know. It's 1:10! 1:20! I dunno. WHAT KIND OF A PERSON ARE YOU ANYWAY? I'm in pain and you want to know what TIME IT IS????"
Me: "Oh yeah. sorry. a mean person I guess. let's not spread that rumor around!!" [waits patiently for the trainer to be okay.]
T: "Ahhhh..okay - back to normal."
Me: "Ummm..are you going to live?"
T: "I think so."
Me: "Good. Because I can't make fun of you if you're not gonna live!"
T: "Haha. Have a good workout."
alright. so I said the other office was neat and tidy? so is THIS one. I love it.
hello...it's FRIDAY! what are you doing this weekend?
I am going to the gym a bunch...to walk the indoor track since it's rainy here... just discovered my legs have muscles and I can use them! probably a good thing... so I knew I had muscles but I think I was strolling before when I walked..now I'm walking quite fast and am finding my "number" (shhh..on the scale) is getting lower each day. weird! but good!
oh..so this weekend (I'm like Meg Ryan's character in Sleepless in Seattle when she tells her fiancee she is easily distracted.... hmm..let's keep up the comparison between me and meg ryan. I like that)
anyway - the weekend!!! hanging out with friends tonight, visiting my mom tomorrow because her very best friend in the whole world is in town for a week, so we'll play cards and eat dinner.
sunday is church then who-knows-what? I keep sundays free of any commitments apart from church.
was going to see Made of Honor but just read a review from sfgate.com that it shouldn't have been a movie longer than 20 minutes. uh oh. so I'll wait and see the ashton kutcher vegas movie when it comes out next week.
I think that's it. you've gotten to read my most recent thoughts that filled my head...and now my mind is empty. probably should go work on that....fill my mind with some philosophy or some other deep stuff.
ooh... forget that. any of you Office fans? when ryan runs into kelly and asks her what's new and she gives him celebrity updates and nothing personal? LOVED that. no depth happening there.
really. I'm done. see ya. have a good weekend!
